Brightwater Treatment Plant was built to help treat the ever-growing demand and usage of water in King County Washington. Brightwater has the capacity to treat an average of 36 million gallons of wastewater per day (mgd). By 2040, treatment capacity may be expanded to 54 mgd. These capacities are for average wet-weather flows.

With so much demand, a robust coating system was required for the substantial abrasion and chemical contact found in the membrane basins. Tnemec, Series 218 Mortarclad and Series 436 Perma-Shield were chosen for their phenomenal performance history in this specific environment, and over 4500 gallons were used to finish the project.

With over 10 years in service when inspected back in 2020, the installed Tnemec system is still performing flawlessly. "This can be related to its S.W.A.T. performance and impermeability of the reinforced film," states Scott McConnell with TNW. "We have 20 years of history with this system, and Tnemec used the SWAT guidelines to find the best working combination of high end materials to build Perma-Shield systems, so with that we are very confident in them."
