No Need To Fear NSF-600!

Tnemec Company is well-prepared for the changes coming in January 2023.  Being a leader in the water tank industry since the 1960's, we have been planning for two decades for potential rule and regulation changes.  We have thousands of historical use tank case histories using the coatings systems you know and trust that can still be used with minimal coating system specification changes, and most importantly - NO UNTESTED PRODUCTS!!

Anyone familiar with coating systems for water and wastewater is well acquainted with NSF/ANSI 60 Drinking Water Treatment Chemicals-Health Effects and NSF/ANSI 61 Drinking Water System Components-Health Effect Regulations established in 1988 by requests for proposals from the Environmental Protection Agency.  Tnemec developed the very first epoxy for these types of structures decades before they were standardized, and continues to lead again with NSF 600.

Below is a short list of Tnemec products that have been certified by UL to meet the drinking water criteria of NSF/ANSI/CAN 600:

  • Series 22 Epoxoline: 100% solids epoxy lining for potable water immersion introduced in 2001.
  • Series FC22 Epoxoline: Fast-cure, 100% solids epoxy lining built to protect steel and concrete surfaces, introduced in 2008.
  • Series 94-H20 Hydro-Zinc: Zinc-rich urethane primer applied on countless water tank interiors and exteriors that was introduced in 2003.
  • Series 406 Elasto-Shield: Polyurethane lining used on steel and concrete potable water structures, introduced in 2002.
  • Series L140 Pota-Pox: Low VOC epoxy coating for potable water introduced in 2005.

As true in the past, Tnemec is continuing to innovate and will release hybrid systems that will change the perception of what can be done in potable water immersion.  These new hybrid products have been performing very well in test market over the last several years, and will be released for project submission very soon.

While the new NSF-600 standard does not go into effect until January 1, 2023, it may be beneficial to start reviewing specifications now for any future projects. We are happy to assist with providing additional information on this standard as well as information on other upcoming products that will meet these new guidelines.  Contact HPC for additional details..
