Located in the Arizona State University Research Park in Tempe, AZ the designers of this building selected an exterior coating that can take the full sun exposure of AZ.
Color stability, excellent adhesion and flexibility were all concerns when specifying the proper finish coat for the concrete building. The combination of dark, light and bright colors demanded that a premium coating was employed to protect this state of the art facility from moisture intrusion and UV light. Tnemec Series 157 Enviro-Crete is a modified waterborne acrylate coating for concrete, masonry and stucco that can fill in and bridge minor hairline cracks. Like it's sister product, Series 156, this coating creates a tightly linked film thereby providing superior protection from moisture. The specialty additives and pigments provide superior UV protection. You can read more about the superiority of this coating technology here.
Series 157 adds an aesthetic element as well in that it is textured, something the designers of this project appreciated. Over 1,000 gallons of Series 157 were applied over a penetrating, flexible, waterborne primer- Tnemec Series 151 Elasto-Grip FC.
Many other inferior elastomeric paints were proposed on this project in an attempt to save upfront costs. However, the designers understand that the longevity provided by a premium coating produces the lowest lifecycle cost.
